Balaclava Station Redevelopment

LANDSCAPE DESIGN

The landscape design for the proposed Balaclava train station upgrade used elements from the Port Phillip urban design materials palette in a new formation.  Rather than the orthogonal arrangements often seen in a streetscape layout, the design response used was an organising ‘crinking’ line that meandered through the site in three dimensions; both unifying and providing variety/diversity. This was complemented with both exotic plantings such as wisteria near the street and indigenous species adjacent to the carpark. The landscape treatment proposed a vegetated rooftop, arbour, planted bank and integrated pavement treatments.
